Buddy Strawn began his tennis teaching career in 1980 in his hometown of Bloomington, IL, and he has returned with the Buddy Strawn Tennis Camp. During his time teaching in the Midwest and Northern California, he has compiled an impressive list of students and accomplishments.
During his first 12 years as a coach, Buddy worked privately with six different doubles teams that won state championships and eight others that finished in the top eight. He also helped teach three singles semifinalists. He was instrumental in helping develop junior tennis in the Bloomington area.
Buddy spent five years (1987-92) teaching at the Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis before moving on to Northern California, where he served as head coach of two schools simultaneously. One of his doubles teams won consecutive North Coast Section (NCS) titles and was the top-ranked 18-and-under doubles team in USTA Northern California. Buddy also coached his daughter to the finals of the NCS singles event.
Buddy has 10 years of experience coaching Division I college tennis, most recently as an assistant with the St. Louis University men’s and women’s teams. After teaching privately in the St. Louis area, he has brought the camp back to Bloomington, where it all began.
His philosophy and teaching techniques help make competitive tennis fun.
