Evaluations

Evaluations will be: Fall: Tuesday 9/14/10 thru Friday 9/17, 4-7pm.
Winter: Tuesday 11/2/10 thru Friday 11/5, 4-7pm.
Spring: Tuesday 2/28/12 thru Wed. 2/29, 4-7pm.
Summer: No Evaluations

Sign-up for evaluation times will begin Monday, August 15th, 2011 for Fall. Winter and Spring any time. Please call (309) 530-5350. All players old and new will be expected to evaluate for documentation reasons at least once a year. Additional evaluations will occur at the beginning of each session for those players who wish to attempt a better score, therefore increasing their chances of moving up a level. Ladder play is also a major factor! There are two evaluations that all players that wish to participate in the BSTC’s lesson programs will become familiar with. They are simply known as Evaluation I and Evaluation II. Evaluation I has a total of eight skill challenges and Evaluation II has a total of ten. The evaluations work a lot like a student will graduate through elementary school all the way through high school or on to college. A student is not allowed to move from one grade to the next without some sort of approval or a passing grade. Using the National Tennis Rating Points (NTRP) system that is endorsed by the USTA as a guide, it is safe to say that the highest level junior tennis players nationwide are no more than 5.5 NTRP players. With that said; any player of any age or size that completes Evaluation I in the order from which the skill challenges are presented, is a solid skill level 3.0 NTRP. Every skill challenge becomes more difficult as a player completes a previous one. Likewise, when a player is able to complete Evaluation II, they are a solid skill level 4.5 NTRP. SPECIAL NOTE: A players skill level may not always be an indication of their “play” ability. In other words, the evaluations address a player’s racquet control not their mental toughness. Granted, the confidence a young player gets from mastering these two evaluations provides a very sound base from which to draw from mentally when the pressures of play rear their ugly heads. Please see the website for a video demonstration of the evaluations.
